SculpSure Body Contouring Q & A

What is SculpSure™?

SculpSure™ is a non-invasive procedure used for the reduction of fat in areas such as the abdomen, thighs, and love handles. It uses a laser treatment to safely melt away unwanted fat to contour the body. The procedure takes about 25 minutes. Patients report a warming sensation during the treatment but there is no pain or discomfort. During the Sculpsure treatment, the laser light will heat up the underlying fat and decrease the number of fat cells. An added benefit to the treatment is in the production of collagen and elastin, the two necessary building blocks for youthful, healthy skin.

What is suction assisted liposuction?

Liposuction is a very effective procedure used for sculpting and removing stubborn fat to improve the contour of the body. It should be noted that this surgery is not a weight loss tool and that patients who are overweight would be better served with a personal diet and exercise plan. The best candidates for liposuction are those who are at a healthy, stable weight with firm, elastic skin who have pockets but have an excess of fatty tissue in well-defined areas that are unresponsive to diet and exercise.

Liposuction should be considered to remove stubborn fatty deposits with minimal scarring in the abdomen, arms, back, hips, thighs, flanks (love handles), enlarged male breasts (gynecomastia). It is also effective at improving the natural contour and proportions of your body.

What is the procedure like?

Liposuction is performed on an outpatient basis under sedation or general anesthesia. It will take anywhere from one to three hours to complete. The recontouring will be done by making small, well-placed incisions in the areas that need to be suctioned. Then a hollow tube called a cannula will be attached to a suction device through these openings and the fat cells are removed. Care is taken to ensure “over suctioning” at the site does not happen and contour irregularities are not created during the procedure. Absorbable sutures are used to close the incisions.
