A woman may choose to undergo a labiaplasty for cosmetic reasons or to treat functional impairment. Dr. Morimoto offers labiaplasty to women in Spokane Valley, Washington and the surrounding areas.
Labiaplasty is a procedure done to improve the appearance of the labia by removing a portion of the labia minora. It is usually done for the following reasons:
Labiaplasty is an out-patient procedure used to sculpt the labia, which is the skin surrounding the vaginal opening. In order to safely reduce the size of the labia minora, the tissue is removed in a vertical wedge which will result in a small, nearly invisible scar. Absorbable sutures are used to close the wound. Surgery is performed under local or general anesthesia and will take up to 30 minutes to perform.
Recovery from labiaplasty surgery typically follows about four to five days of rest with two to three weeks off from the gym or other physical activities. There may be significant swelling post surgery due to the thin skin of the labia. This will decrease after about two weeks. Dr. Morimoto will ask you to avoid tight fitting clothing during the recovery phase. Sexual intercourse and the use of tampons should be avoided for several weeks following the procedure.
Complications following labiaplasty are rare but can occur. Carefully following Dr. Morimoto’s post-operative instructions will help reduce the risk of complications.
Many times patients choose to combine other procedures with labiaplasty such as vaginal rejuvenation, breast augmentation, liposuction, or tummy tucks for a full feminine make over. This option offers a single surgical session that minimizes the risk, inconvenience, and cost of multiple surgeries.
